Every client at Second Chance is a resident of Bay County and is blessed to be alive today after narrowly surviving a traumatic brain injury (resulting from a severe blow to the head) or an acquired brain injury (stroke, aneurysm, disease, illness, etc). Now that they have survived against great odds, their greatest challenge is learning how to live life again with their permanent disability. Retraining and relearning requires time, consistency, expertise, and a structured, secure environment. Social Security Disability is the only source of income for many of these individuals so they have no means to pay for essential brain injury rehabilitation services on their own. Social and economic struggles are overwhelming to these survivors and their families. Community reintegration and reestablishment of financial stability are insurmountable to these residents. Second Chance of Northwest Florida exists to restore hope, dignity, and quality of life where there currently is none.
